Energy Aspects currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Data Analyst to join the Data team, based out of our Kolkata office, dedicated to supporting our Upstream oil research team. The role will play a central role in the build-out of our data offerings. It will be multi-faceted and includes responsibilities spanning oil, gas and NGLs supply. The role will involve the buildout of datasets such as collation of project data to enhance our forecasting capability, to using GIS-based software to map out infrastructure. You will be required to quickly take on an array of responsibilities and will work closely with analysts across multiple offices. The role will work alongside the Research & Data teams in London/US to develop their career in either a research or technical/data direction while building a specialist understanding of energy and how data is applied to energy market analysis. The Data team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Energy Aspects’ energy databases, including those available to our clients and others used internally. You will collaborate with all energy research desks to ensure data is collected, collated, and maintained to very high standards. Duties Contribute to the development of an upstream product for our clients. Track and analyze implications of upstream projects, trends, and disruptions globally. Manage regular updates of upstream data files as part of client data service. Ensure energy databases are collected, collated, and updated to the level of detail and cadence required by our research desks Understand how data is used and applied by our research teams to ensure data integrity beyond technical correctness Utilize data quality monitoring and reporting processes to guarantee data integrity, working to proactively resolve any issues quickly Support timely responses to client queries regarding energy databases, including preparing and publishing methodology documents where appropriate Requirements Degree in a quantitative subject such as economics or engineering 2+ years working in a data or research role, as part of a team Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize and deliver to pre-agreed timeframes Understanding of data preparation and cleanliness best practices, within Excel and SQL databases Proficient use of Excel for collating and presenting data Ability to learn new concepts quickly, apply a critical thinking approach to tackling large scale challenges Excellent communication skills Experience working across time zones, primarily London/US, in a cross-functional role within a global company Desirable skills Knowledge of SQL databases, including the design, management, and querying thereof Knowledge of Python for data collection, transformation, and database interaction Use of GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS) Interest in commodities, energy, or financial markets About usFounded in 2012, we are an independent research consultancy that has enjoyed phenomenal growth since our inception, and we have very ambitious plans to continue our upwards growth trajectory.
