About the New Product Introductions Team and the Role Are you interested in improving build processes and maintenance to increase quality, consistency, and build rates? If yes, this could be the position for you! As an intern supporting the New Product Introduction team, you will be part of our mission to make sure that our new products are manufacturable and maintainable. We are looking for technically qualified candidates to intern with us as we obsess over how to build a product so that it can grow from serving tens of thousands to billions of customers. The ideal candidate will have high attention to detail, strive to make data-driven decisions, and present the facts as you see them. What You'll Do Work with Manufacturing, Field Support, and Design Engineering to design and bring to life production-quality, cost-effective fixtures, jigs, maintenance tools, and tool modifications to improve manufacturing and operations quality, cycle time, and reliability. Validate new fixtures with manufacturing and operations teammates Investigate current manufacturing and maintenance processes to identify opportunities for improvements. Develop maintenance instructions fixtures for in house operations. Prepare CAD, assembly drawings, instructions, specifications, standards, and bills of material necessary to manufacture your designs. Learn configuration management of the fixture documentation in the controlled data repository. Oversee any updates required using the engineering change order process. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. What You'll Bring Must have Must have at least completed the second year of your Undergraduate studies. Masters and PhD students are also eligible. Ongoing coursework in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field Proficiency with CAD programs (Siemens NX, Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion, OnShape, etc.) High build quality and consistent commitment to craftsmanship. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail. Hands-on engineering experience, including an understanding of typical material properties (steels, aluminum, plastics, composites) Ability to understand and interpret a wide variety of technical documents (electrical specifications, mechanical drawings, etc…) Ability to contribute to the design of new fixtures, and excellent build skills for the execution of new designs. Technical Communications: You can read and comprehend drawings, technical documentation, data sheets, and work instructions. Experience authoring documents that capture complex ideas in simple terms and concepts. Proven ability to work closely with stakeholders to improve a product. An understanding of the purpose and limitations of the tools you are trained on. The grit, resourcefulness, and resilience to thrive in a novel, uncertain, and constantly changing business and regulatory environment. Initiative and drive to work efficiently for smart solutions. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs onto a table or move them across the office This role may require the use of chemicals for some tasks that require the use of a respirator. Nice to have Proficiency with 2D drawing, GD&T, alignments, and 3D CAD modeling Familiarity with 3D Printing Welding experience Machining experience (Mill, Lathe, CNC and/ or manual) Laser cutter experience Electro-mechanical and pneumatic system build experience (wiring harness build, soldering, air system assembly). Basic microcontroller build and programming experience. Experience working on hardware/software projects and collaborating with hardware engineers/teammates and manufacturing engineers/teammates. What Else You Need to Know Our internships are full-time positions, in-person at our South San Francisco office. We will host our Spring 2024 interns from January to May. The starting cash range for this role is $32.00 - 36.00 / hour. Please note that this is a target, starting cash range for a candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for this role. The final cash pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include: equity compensation; overtime pay; discretionary annual or performance bonuses; sales incentives; benefits such as medical, dental and vision insurance; paid time off; and more.
