Location: This is a globally remote position with potential occasional travel to/within Yemen. For candidates based in Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen and Dubai, there will be an option to work from one of our offices.Contract type: Consultancy with potential to become permanent, supporting a 17-month project. Present and past ARK Group donors in Yemen include among others the US Government (Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)), the UK’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF), the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY), and the World Bank. ARK Group is looking for a Researcher to join our Yemen research team. Reporting to the Head of Research and working closely with senior members of the Yemen research team, you will conduct mixed-methods research and collaborate with other members of the research and project(s) team(s), depending on the specific requirements, in the design, data collection, cleaning, and analysis, and the production of research outputs and deliverables. You will also contribute to business development activities related to ARK Group’s Yemen portfolio and build a public profile as subject matter expert through publications and the participation in relevant fora. What you'll be doing Contributing to the design of research plans, deliverables and data collection tools, such as semi-structured Key Informant Interviews, Focus Group Discussions, field surveys, online questionnaires, participatory and observational research methods; Cleaning and analysing primary and secondary data and draft thematic and analytical reports; Producing and/or contributing to data visualisation products such as maps, dashboards, infographics, and graphs; Participating in the training of enumerators and assisting with supervision of data collectors and field researchers and associated protocols and quality control mechanisms; Editing and reviewing research outputs and deliverables produced by other members of the team; Reviewing and synthesizing relevant scholarly and specialist material from academic journals, policy institutes/think tanks and international organisations; Maintaining situational awareness by keeping abreast of relevant socio-political, economic and security developments in Yemen, which may directly or indirectly impact research, data collection and project implementation activities; Monitoring social media and mainstream online media and collecting, analysing and managing data from monitoring activities; Contributing to the preparation of project-related presentations and attend meetings and calls with research clients and/or other relevant stakeholders; Building a profile as a subject matter expert through the development of papers and publications, as well as participation in relevant conferences and events; Contributing to ARK’s Yemen business development activities. RequirementsYou will have policy-oriented research experience in/on Yemen; a commitment and passion to studying the challenges facing local communities and how Yemen donors can sustainably contribute to address those challenges; strong attention to detail; and advanced analytical and writing skills. Essential Comprehensive experience conducting policy-oriented/applied research on Yemen; Strong interest and knowledge of Yemen, with regards to themes such as community resilience, social cohesion, conflict prevention and mitigation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, political and organised violence, refugees and IDPs, governance, among others; Full professional proficiency in English and Arabic; Experience utilising qualitative and quantitative research methods; Experience writing reports for a variety of target audiences and collating and visualising data; Strong communication skills; Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy; Advanced computer literacy/skills; Commitment to the conduct of ethical research with human subjects. Desirable Familiarity with relevant software such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data visualisation tools; Experience with and interest in producing infographics, data visualisation tools and dashboards; Interest in and knowledge of data management processes and relevant software; Masters degree in the Social Sciences (Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Sociology, Social Work, Development, Conflict, Anthropology, Area Studies, or a related discipline).
